Jim Horton

President

Jim is proudly Zach’s Dad. Jim is a native of California who grew up in the Riverside area. He moved to Fresno approximately 40 years ago to attend West Coast Bible College where he graduated valedictorian of his class. Jim also attended Fresno Pacific University and received a teaching credential from CSUF. Jim’s career has been varied and most notably was a former educator in the Clovis schools and worked in the mental health field for several years prior to finishing up his career in the mortgage industry.

Jim and his wife Lynn were married in 1991 and Zach was their only child. Jim quit working when Zach was 8 years old and took on the “stay at home Dad role” which he excelled at. He coached several sports that Zach played. He was a crossing guard for Clovis Hills Elementary and helped out in Zach’s classes. He and Zach took karate together. Jim was the Cub master for Zach’s Cub Scout group. Jim was an “all in Dad” and Zach knew how much his Dad loved him.

Jim has been forthright about Zach’s addiction and his struggles to sustain recovery. Jim is a driving force in the development of the Zachary Horton Foundation. Jim has created a podcast “Zach’s Life” and a desire to tell Zach’s story and change the conversation around Substance Use Disorder.  Jim aspires to the mission of the Zachary Horton Foundation.

Lynn Horton

Vice President

Lynn Horton, most importantly, is Zach’s mom. Lynn was born and raised in Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree. She attended Arizona State University where she graduated with a master’s degree in health services administration. She relocated to Fresno in 1986 to open a small psychiatric hospital representing Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).  Since then, she has held several administrative leadership roles in various healthcare facilities. She currently works as the Director of Patient Access at Valley Children’s Healthcare.

When Zach was born in 2000, Lynn assumed leadership roles that would allow for more flexibility with her time so she could focus on her son. Zach has been her greatest joy.  She took on the “room mom” role throughout his elementary years, attended all sport and school events and cherished the time she spent with Zach. Zach could always count on Lynn to be there for him. She is the proud recipient of a license plate frame that indicates she is the “Best Freakin Mom Ever” given to her by her son. Lynn has been married to Jim since April 1991 and has never experienced a dull moment since. Jim is a great husband and father. Lynn counts herself incredibly lucky to have him. Since Zach passed away, Lynn has been grieving the loss of her son.  She and Jim decided to focus their energies on developing the Zachary Horton Foundation as Zach’s legacy. If love could have saved Zach, she knows that he would still be here today.

After the Navy I have been involved in a number of things, from Agriculture to Investments.
I have found that being a part of organizations that serve our community primarily those that serve our future
leaders (children) to be the most satisfying. Having served on a number of boards such as Youth for
Christ and Break the Barriers. The Zachary Horton Foundation serves our community as it educates us all in regards to chemical dependency. And it has brought me great joy, as I have watched it impact so many and hope to see it impact many more.
